The Music Club and Cabaret of Pest
Bringing Back the Good Old Days!
Orfeum – does that term sound familiar to you? If not, no worries. In fact, the word was used only in Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic, to refer to something like a Café Chantant, a Varieté or a Music Hall, where audiences sat at little round tables while on the tiny stage one act followed the next, with acrobats, singers, dancers and poets presenting whatever they had. It was all part of city life at the end of the 19th century, the orfeums had their brightest days in the 1880s. But where has that world gone since the turn of the century? Where is the legendary Blaue Katze, or Foliés? In the 20th century, the orfeum’s place was taken over by bars and dance halls. But now they’re coming back! We at Orfeum have set out to revive this turn-of-the-century feeling by creating a place offering light entertainment. Comfy armchairs, special drinks, and a small podium for all that entertainment: music and theater nights, club concerts and variety shows. And the line-up is pretty varied. There’s room for burlesque shows as well as funky parties, for interactive dinner theater and operetta galas. Come here for a quiet dinner, a relaxing drink after a long week, and a bit of glamour on stage!
